Wilton Marina, Grand Union Canal – Wednesday 8 May 2013
Headed
off in sunshine, but severe cross-wind, so the boat needed to be steered into
the wind rather than straight. This stretch
is bounded on the East by the M1 motorway and on the West by the main rail
line, so sounds of ‘civilisation’ all the time but otherwise an uneventful run
of 9 miles to Wilton Marina and five minutes after I had moored up it started
raining heavily. Later in the afternoon
I went up to the Lockgate Café and also had a browse in the Chandlery getting a
new set of mooring ropes (the current ones are looking decidedly tatty).
I have
seen a few totally white ducks that look like they should be bobbing about in a
bath-tub.
Rang
Jules to say where I’ll be tomorrow as I will be looking after Jess for the
next two weeks. My plan is to go up the
Buckby flight (7 locks) and moor for a few days at Norton Junction doing boat
cleaning and preparation.
