Grand Union Canal – Wednesday 02 October 2013
Rain
started at about 4 am and was still going at 07:30 but needs must so I got
ready and headed off for about 9 miles to the Blisworth Tunnel meeting the only
boat going the other way at the bends in the tunnel. There was a Wyvern boat following so once
through the tunnel and into the Stoke Bruerne Top Lock I waited for them. The usual friendly Lock keeper was there so
time passed quickly chatting. There were
three men crewing the Wyvern and they were happy to operate the locks and with
boats coming up at every lock we were through the seven locks in just over an
hour. They then stopped for their lunch
break but I continued to the Cosgrove lock and Milton Keynes.
The
rain stopped at about 9 am but it remained miserable and cloudy until about 3pm
when it warmed up although no breaks in the clouds until 5pm.
