Grand Union Canal – Tuesday 01 October 2013
A
late start - 07:45!! A steady run down
to Braunston where the Oxford joins the Grand Union. I now know I’m in the home of the “grumpy old
gits” – on the Oxford comments were along the lines of ‘nice to not hear a boat
approaching’ at Braunston a mouthful for going too fast passing boats although
I was at tick-over speed. I think they
based my speed on the ‘V’ in the water which was part me and also the wind
causing waves!! Anyway there was only
the two.
I
joined up with a hire boat to go through the Braunston Locks (6), Braunston
Tunnel and Buckby Locks (7). I stopped
at Wilton Marina as I had snapped one of the centre lines, it had become worn
and frayed. The second one was also
looking a bit rough so two new ropes. I
also filled up with diesel which should get me to Uxbridge. Tomorrow it is Blisworth and Stoke Bruerne
The clouds
have been present all day with only bright patches but no blue sky.
