Todmorden

Sunday 06 July 2014 – Todmorden, Rochdale Canal
Locks were open at 07:10 so we were ready to go through the last uphill lock and across the summit then start the run down into Yorkshire. There are a couple of swing bridges, a narrow lock and a guillotine gate to contend with but the weather has been great and there has been a lot of cyclists around (ones not in that race thing).  A couple of the pounds are higher than the locks they supply so that the top gate is part under water and there is a major waterfall once the lock is empty (needing care to ensure that the boat is not filled).  We moored up at 14:15 although all the visitor moorings were taken then spent the rest just sitting in the sun.  We have done nineteen locks and four miles but without a proper OS map I could not say what the vertical climb either up to the summit or down to here has been although the water has been level all the way.
