Sunday 01 June 2014 – Braunston,
Grand Union Canal
Since the last blog I have been at Crick where I was unable to get
either a phone or internet signal, and at Norton I saw Braidbar 117 ‘Rocquette’
one I’d not seen before. I stayed at
Norton junction over the weekend then moved up to Crick. This year our mooring was close to the entrance
to the main Marina and over the following week ‘Ice Breaker’ was joined by ‘Briar
Rose’, ‘Cala’, ‘Farne’, ‘Just Siviting’, ‘Priscilla II’ and ‘Sanity Again’, in
the marina were ‘Bunnies Warren’, ‘La Suevera’ and ‘Shim Shams’ and the Show
Boat was ‘Santiago’ so there were plenty of parties and chats. The weather was glorious until Wednesday 22nd
when we put up the new marquee and it then started to rain almost non-stop
until the Saturday and the showground became a mud bath. The Sunday was dry and sunny with loads of
crowds but the rain returned for the Monday and stayed until Thursday 29th,
most of the boats moored along the canal remained, unlike other years when
there is a rush to get through the locks at Foxton or Watford.
Moving away from Crick I travelled in company with ‘Just Siviting’ and
we came through the Crick and Braunston tunnels before doing the Braunston
locks breasted up (tied together) with Austin steering and Liz and I doing the
locks. We then moored near the Marina
where I have laundered all the clothes that got totally mud spattered at the
show and got an anchor ready for facing rivers in the future. While here both ‘Cala’ and ‘Sanity Again’ moored
up but we split up after this weekend and head off in different
directions. This morning we were passed
by Braidbar 109 ‘Kala’, another one off the list. The weather has been cloudy with sunny
patches until today when the sun has been out all day.
