Harshill

Thursday 12 June 2014 – Hartshill Yard, Coventry Canal
Another superb day for messing about in boats, the sun has been out all day.  Left the Basin at 08:45 and there was only one boat going toward Coventry and we passed at Longfod bridge.  The canal is on a bend just after the bridge (for me) and was so wide it could be a winding hole, so definitely no problems.   After that a steady run to Marston Junction and when I had passed the CRT workmen and Marston Bridge I saw through the trees a Black Prince boat on the Ashby, so gave a long blast on the horn but the Prince kept coming straight out!  The person on the bow only looked in my direction when I went into reverse and they signalled they were turning towards me.  Impasse.  There were also two other boats on the other part of the Coventry.  The Prince then backed up and immediately I had gone past came through the bridge and turned south ahead of the other two boats.  There were no other incidents en route.
The boatyard at Bedworth have re-dressed the marionettes for the new season – there is a kid climbing a playground frame, the policeman has acquired a beard, and a couple look like they are eloping as she is in a wedding gown!  It cheers me up.
As I have moored at Hartshill I took the opportunity to visit the “Land Girl’s Cookery School” thinking it would be a sort of museum place – no joy - the owner was trained by her granny to cook the way they did during the war and now runs a cookery school there.  More details at their website www.landgirlscookery school.co.uk.
