18 September 2014 – Tixall Wide, Staffs & Worcs Canal
For the
experts out there you will realise that I have taken a slight detour.
A
pre-planned phone call last night to Chris & Les (Eleventh Heaven) to let
them know I would be passing them at Kings Bromley on Saturday allowed me to
find out they would be here at Tixall Wide and we could meet. A quick check and I agreed to try.
While it
was not a race it became a ten hour day with 18 miles and 18 locks. I started at 07:00 going down through the
Stoke Flight. It was easy going at first
as the locks were in my favour or nearly full.
As I approached the Measham flight a boat was ahead so the locks were then
empty for me but then from Stone onwards there was a boat coming out at each
lock. The last lock of the day was Hoo
Mill and there was a queue of boats waiting to go up so lots of traffic
Getting
to the Wide I winded the boat then breasted up on Eleventh Heaven and we spent
the evening catching up and starting plans for next year when we hope to do the
Lancaster and Liverpool parts of the system.
