Cosgrove

Cosgrove, Grand Union Canal – Saturday 10 August 2013
A bit of excitement last night – there are no ‘canal lights’ like you motorists have so last night was dark.  After 10pm when it was pitch black a boat went past that had just come down the Soulbury locks!  The other boats called out but the boater ignored all calls and went on, including the next lock.  I hope whoever it was eats a lot of carrots.
The usual start to the morning, cloudy but no rain so off I went at 08:00 for the Stoke Hammond lock, then two miles until the Fenny Stratford lock (a drop of 13 inches) which were the total locks for today.  Then it is just a steady cruise round Milton Keynes.  As MK is a new town I am impressed with the foresight of the Grand Junction Canal Company (as it was) laying the canal so neatly round where the town was going to be.  Blue skies started to appear about 11:00 and gradually the sun came out from behind clouds and it has got nice, warm and sunny again.
