Stone, Trent & Mersey Canal – Tuesday 20 August 2013

Jess was collected last night so I do not have to do a short run - started out just after eight heading towards Rugeley with no incidents – the canal is only 1 boat wide near Hawkesyard Hall where the Armitage tunnel has been opened up, so it is necessary to check that no boat is coming before entering this stretch.  After this it’s a level run to Little Haywood where locks start the climb towards Harecastle.  The run on to Stone is quiet farmland between the locks which are quite spaced out.  When I got to Stone there were no available moorings so I was expecting to have to go through the town but just after Star Lock I beeped at Eleventh Heaven (Braidbar boat) and have ‘breasted up’ with them, I plan to stay here tomorrow after they move off.  The weather has remained good – sun with cloudy patches all day.
