Mancetter

Mancetter, Coventry Canal – Thursday 15 August 2013
An interesting couple of days, I don’t think.  I woke on Wednesday with what felt like grit in my right eye, but after a wash and use of one of the eye sprays it felt better so I headed off along the Oxford Canal.  The eye soon started hurting like mad making it difficult to see.  By the time I got to Rugby it was really playing up, so I headed off to the local A&E except its now called Minor Treatments or some such title.  After being examined and some die onto the eye it turned out to be a scratch across the eyeball.  I was given Chloramphenicol ointment, with instructions that if it didn’t improve to go to Coventry where I could get more appropriate treatment.  The ointment made it impossible to see and I couldn’t get the stuff in the right place so a quick trip to TESCO to see the pharmacist to see if I could get some Chloramphenicol eye drops instead of the ointment, the answer was no – the ointment was 1% they can only sell 0.5% and as the hospital had given them I should go to my GP (in London!) or back to the Hospital (a £20 taxi fare) and get a prescription, so I came away with a couple of black eye-patches.  With resting the eye and just listening to some music it felt a lot better today.
At the hospital I discovered that my sooper-dooper iPhone doesn’t work so it cost me £1 to ring for a taxi as I had not taken any change.  It is still dumb so I will have to find an EE shop and see if they can fix or replace.  Fortunately I have my old Samsung as I am supposed to be dog sitting this weekend if Jess can find me!!
Today’s run was uneventful.  From Rugby along the Oxford Canal, in the Newbold tunnel there are usually multi coloured lights to brighten the journey but today only the ones at the entrance were working.  Then on to Hawkesbury Junction where I joined the Coventry Canal, more miles and I’ve moored just before the Atherstone Locks which is a flight of eleven.
I will rest my eye again tonight to give it a chance to recover.
